    Vikings receive multiple softball awards

    South Granville’s softball program once again fielded some of the top players in the Northern Lakes Athletic Conference and in the state as was announced at the post-season award ceremony.

    Earning all-conference honors were Chaleigh Currin, Georgia  Preddy, Maddie Wilkins, Tiatana Bates, Abby Gerovac and Avery Wilson.

    Currin was named the NLAC Pitcher of the Year.

    Those earning special recognition were Preddy, who received the South Granville Player of the Year Award. The Most Improved Player award went to Ayden Koonce. Kayla Cannady received the Sportsmanship Award. Savannah Norton earned the Coaches Award for the 2024 South Granville Softball Team.

    Emily Puckett was named the NLAC Coach of the Year and April Shaeffer was recognized for her tireless efforts to enhance the softball program.

    District, State Recognition

    The NC Softball Coaches Association recognized four players with a place on the 2A East, District 3, All-District Team.

    Bates, Currin, Gerovac and Preddy were named to the all-district squad. Preddy was tapped as the District 3, 2A East Player of the Year.

    Earning All-State honors were Bates, Currin, Gerovac and Preddy. This recognition comes from the NC Softball Coaches Association.

    Scholar Athletes

    A number of South Granville softball players received recognition for work in the classroom. The North Carolina High School  Athletic Association recognized student athletes that maintained a 3.0 grade point average. Receiving recognition were Abigail Shaeffer, Kylyn Long, Sydney Hockaday, Piper Van Ningen, Preddy, Currin, Koonce, Wilkins, Gerovac, Bates, Cannady, and Wilson.

    The following received recognition from the NCHSAA for maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average: Savannah Norton, Preddy, Long, Shaeffer, Koonce,Wilkins, Koonce, Hockaday, Gerovac, Wilson Van Ningen, Bates, and Currin.
