Man Utd issues major Leny Yoro injury update as signing set to miss Liverpool clash

Manchester United's young starlet Leny Yoro is on the mend after a successful foot surgery but the former Liverpool transfer target is set to miss around three months of action — including the game with the Reds at Old Trafford at the start of next month.

The 18-year-old suffered a metatarsal fracture during the first half of United's 2-1 pre-season loss to Arsenal in Los Angeles, which kicked off their tour stateside. Post-surgery, the prognosis for Yoro is positive, with expectations set for a November comeback, three months from now.

Despite the setback, insiders at the club are optimistic, the MEN reports, seeing Yoro's recovery period as a chance for him to acclimatize to Manchester life. Yoro turned heads with his debut performance against Rangers last month, showcasing his potential after just one training session at Carrington.

United are confident in Yoro's future, touting him as a potential world-class defender. His transfer from Lille could reach a staggering $77m (£60m/€70m) , marking it as a significant acquisition.

Erik ten Hag, speaking about Yoro's injury, reflected: "That's part of football, that's part of top football especially, that you come into, you go to the edge, every player has to go to the edge.

"And yeah, then injuries are not avoidable. But of course, we have to be ready as a club and as a team to cover this and the players are dealing very well with this setback. They (Yoro and Rasmus Hojlund) are very positive, they are already recovering and they will return."

United may be eyeing up reinforcements in defense for the upcoming summer transfer window, with Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich having agreed on personal terms, and there's a bubbling interest in Jarrad Branthwaite at Everton . With Victor Lindelof approaching the last 12 months of his commitment with United, it seems the club is keen to find him a new home.

When grilled on whether the knocks to Yoro and Hojlund might influence United's strategy in the transfer market, Ten Hag firmly stated: "No, no. This will not change anything. We have a plan and we stick to the plan. No (it won't change who stays), no. We have a plan and we will execute the plan, how we have that in our minds. So we will continue this."

Liverpool.com says: Yoro could have been playing for Liverpool in an alternative universe. We'll never know what might have happened had he picked the Reds but you have to feel for him. Making the big move and then picking up a serious injury is really bad luck for a very talented addition to Erik ten Hag's roster.
