Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh just named his four best football coaches of all time. While appearing on Pardon My Take , Harbaugh named his Mount Rushmore of coaches while discussing his career.

“When I put up a Mount Rushmore of coaches, I mean if I’m going to the very tip-top it’s Jack Harbaugh , John Harbaugh , Dave Adolph, Bo Schembechler ,” Harbaugh said. “Those four are right at the very top.”

Of course, Jack Harbaugh is Jim’s father, and John Harbaugh, the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, is Jim’s brother. Jack Harbaugh came out of retirement last year to help Jim coach the Michigan Wolverines to a national title. He had a lot of success as a college football coach, leading Western Kentucky to a Division I-AA (now called FCS) national championship in 2002. Overall, Jack Harbaugh has an overall record of 116-95-3.

John has been the Ravens head coach since 2008 and led the team to a Super Bowl title in 2012. He holds the record for most road playoff wins (eight), and was named AP Coach of the Year in 2019.

Adolph, who died in 2017, was a longtime assistant coach in college and the NFL. He worked with Jim when he was the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of San Diego (2004-2007) and a data analyst at Michigan (2015-2016).

Schembechler, who died in 2006, was Jim Harbaugh’s coach when he was the quarterback for the Michigan Wolverines from 1982 to 1986. During his time at Michigan, Schembechler led the team to 13 Big Ten championships and was named Big Ten Coach of the Year six times.

Jim Harbaugh makes an interesting training camp comparison

Harbaugh is entering his first season with the Chargers, and the team is currently going through the grind of training camp. While speaking to reporters last week Harbaugh compared camp to a rocket ship.

“It’s just, the analogy of a rocket taking off, you know?” Harbaugh said , before making rocket noises. “Then, before you know it, boom. Or a plane going down the runway. It starts at a dead stop, and then it builds up speed, gets faster and faster, going so fast that it just has to leave the ground, and then, you know, there’s a little bit of a glide that takes place, and then, before you know It, you’re up to 30,000 feet.”
