Jordan Chiles Has Blunt Message For Those Upset By Her Bronze Medal Score Change

USA gymnast Jordan Chiles won her first-ever individual Olympic medal on Monday in the floor exercise final, but it wasn’t without controversy.

Chiles’ routine was initially scored a 13.666, landing her in fourth place behind Romania’s Ana Barbosu, who scored a 13.7000 and was led to believe she won the bronze medal.

However, a last-minute score change leapfrogged Chiles over Barbosu for the bronze — a decision that drew plenty of criticism with gymnastics great Nadia Comaneci being one of the more outspoken about the incident.

While Chiles certainly isn’t going to apologize for medaling, she did take to social media to send a message to those unfairly coming after her.

“It’s funny how people can still never be happy for someone…,” Chiles wrote on X.

Barbosu was seen celebrating what she and her coaches believed was a bronze-medal performance. The moment she realized Biles had been awarded the score change was one of the more viral moments from Monday’s Games.

The score change came after Chiles’ coaches filed an inquiry with the judges, citing one of the elements in Chiles’ routine wasn’t given the proper difficult rating.

The appeal worked as the move was bumped from a D to C difficulty level, subsequently bumping her score to 13.766 and sealing the third Olympic medal of her career.
