‘You’d Have To Ask Him’: Pelosi Tells CNN She’s Not Sure If She’s Still Pals with Biden

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refused to give an answer after being asked if her relationship with President Joe Biden was “Ok” on CNN, Monday.

During an interview with Pelosi on Erin Burnett OutFront , guest host Dana Bash said, “I do want to ask about President Biden because you said that you did not put anybody up to pressuring him to step aside.”

“I did not,” replied Pelosi.

Bash continued, “One of the things I’ve been wanting to ask you about is the lawmakers who came out, 1, 2, 3, are some of the lawmakers who are closest to you. Adam Schiff, Jamie Raskin, Zoe Lofgren, with statements saying that they respectfully thought it was time for the president to step aside.”

After Bash again noted that Schiff, Raskin, and Lofgren “were all Pelosi allies,” Pelosi insisted, “I have hundreds of allies in the Congress of the United States. No, I had nothing to do with that. If you ask them, it’s almost insulting to them because they’re formidable figures in the Congress of the United States. They make their own judgment and their own statement.”

The interview continued:

Bash: Have you spoken to President Biden since he dropped out?

Pelosi: No, I have not.

Bash: Do you hope to?

Pelosi: Yes, when– I hope to. We’re all busy.

Bash: Is everything OK with your relationship?

Pelosi: You’d have to ask him, but I hope so.

Turning to the camera, Pelosi added, “But he knows. Look, I have loved Joe Biden, respected him for over 40 years.”

She concluded, “I think he has made one of the biggest contributions to our country in the shortest period of time of any president you can name.”

Biden stepped back as the Democratic Party’s 2024 presumptive nominee last month after several prominent Democrats and Democratic donors urged him to withdraw from the race.

While Pelosi did not publicly call for Biden’s withdrawal, the former House speaker was accused of working behind the scenes to replace Biden as the Democratic nominee.

Prior to his withdrawal, CNN reported that the president was “seething” with “much of his anger directed at Nancy Pelosi” after several of her close allies urged him to step down.

Pelosi insisted this week, however, that she “did not call one person” in the lead-up to Biden’s decision to drop out of the race.
