The Bachelorette contestants hoped for 'drama free' elimination amid ex plot twist

The Bachelorette contestants did not expect for Jenn Tran to drop news about her ex on them.

On the Tuesday, August 6 episode of the ABC dating show, Jenn revealed to the 11 men competing for her love that her ex-boyfriend Matthew showed up unexpectedly in New Zealand for another shot at love. This came after the men hoped for the "first drama free" rose ceremony, at least Dylan was hopeful about it.

Jenn sat them down before the rose ceremony to tell them what Matthew revealed to her and that she needed to talk to him before she was able to continue on with the night.

As soon as the Bachelorette went to go on to talk to her ex boyfriend, the men started to spiral. Austin wanted to know how everyone felt about it because he believed it was "wack and corny" if he was able to stay, knowing that an ex has an advantage. John did not expect for news like that to come out of Jenn's mouth but it's something "we're all going to have to deal with."

During Austin B.'s confessional, he said: "This sucks. That is a gut punch to everyone sitting in that room right there."

Spencer also told the camera: "It's easy to jump to conclusions that you know, does he come and stay in the house? Does she leave with him?"

Grant gave his two sense and said that at the end of the day this is her decision. He just doesn't want to see her get hurt again. He also said: "We all took that kind of personally. We're all putting our hearts on the line. There's already some good men in the picture so I'm not happy about it."

At the end, the spiraling was for nothing. Jenn expressed how this was hard for her because she cares about him but their chapter ended for a reason. Matthew took it upon himself to communicate to the men that Jenn did not want to include him to this journey as she felt her future was in that room. She was confident that those men could offer her something Matthew couldn't.
