Fabio Carvalho eyed by second Premier League team as 'talks start' with Liverpool youngster

Southampton has already seen a proposal rejected by Liverpool for young talent Fabio Carvalho, but now Leicester City has entered the race .

The two newly promoted Premier League teams have expressed interest in Carvalho , who starred on loan at Hull City last season and has enjoyed a brilliant preseason with Liverpool. Carvalho scored against both Arsenal and Manchester United on Liverpool's tour of the United States and has shone under new head coach Arne Slot .

Shortly after Carvalho's goal against United, which was the final game on Liverpool's U.S. tour, Southampton submitted a $19.2 million bid for the 21-year-old . According to The Athletic , this was quickly rejected by Liverpool, which believes his value exceeds the offer submitted.

Now Leicester has expressed interest in Carvalho, and conversations have begun, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool is against another loan spell for Carvalho and will either give him an opportunity to impress in the upcoming season or sanction a permanent sale.

Carvalho is highly rated by Liverpool fans, and the supporters are desperate to see him succeed at Anfield . The young midfielder was signed in May 2022 for an initial $6.4 million and became a hero in his first season after scoring a 98th-minute winner at Anfield against Newcastle United.

He was loaned out initially to RB Leipzig during the 2023/24 season but returned to Liverpool following a lack of game time. Carvalho joined Hull for the second half of the season and scored nine goals in 20 games, helping the Championship team stage a push for a playoff spot.

Hull missed out on the top six, but Carvalho displayed his quality and left as a fan favorite. The midfielder has enjoyed working under Slot during preseason and told Liverpool.com the plan was to stay at the club next season, but interest remains.

"That's the target, to stay here," Carvalho said. "I'm just having fun and enjoying the time I'm here and I'm learning a lot of new things." Carvalho spoke after scoring in a 2-1 win over Arsenal and was extremely complimentary of Slot's methods.

"It's good! Some of the principles are still the same but obviously, he wants us to play a certain type of football that is a bit different to what we've been used to," Carvalho added. "We're adapting every day, just taking on board what he says which is great. We're having fun but working hard."

Liverpool will only sell Carvalho if it receives an offer that is too good to refuse, but the plan is to keep him on the squad for next season and see how he performs after a year of valuable experience. Liverpool won't be forced into a sale as Carvalho is still seen as a future star, and the lack of business done this summer suggests that Slot is happy with the current squad.
