Daniel Jones Starts Brawl At Joint Giants-Lions Practice

The joint practice between the New York Giants and Detroit Lions got out of hand on Monday. Multiple brawls were started, with multiple punches being thrown from both sides. And one of the last people you’d expect to be at the center of these brawls is Giants’ quarterback, Daniel Jones.

Jones was seen shoving Lions’ defensive lineman, Alim McNeill in the back after McNeill pushed Giants’ center, Greg Van Roten, to the ground. It’s an attitude the world doesn’t often see from a soft spoken Jones, especially as he was only cleared for full football activities days prior to the start of training camp.

ESPN NFL Nation Reporter for the NY Giants, Jordan Raanan, caught the altercation from the sidelines at Monday’s training camp:

Just moments later, another brawl broke out between Lions WR, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and the Giants’ Defense, and the tone was officially set for an extremely heated practice session. When it was all said and done, eight total fights broke out during the joint practice.

Jones, who started it all, had this to say after practice:

"A situation happens like that, you try to stand up for your guys, I thought it was good competitive practice all day [Monday] and we made some plays and did some good things. There are some things we need to shore up, for sure, but good intensity and competitive spirit."

Our personal favorite reaction, however, came from Giants linebacker, Brian Burns:

"Oh, Lord. Daniel got jiggy with it. Daniel was out there with it? Yeah. I'm going to need him to back up. Let his O-line handle that. But Daniel, he's a competitor, man. He's a fighter. So, I don't expect anything less from him. But I don't need him in that. I don't need him to get hit. Keep him healthy."

With so many question marks surrounding Jones this season, we should expect him to pull of his tricks out of his bag, but staying out of brawls and staying healthy would be a good trick to start with.
