I’m a gypsy living in a caravan, it’s so hard when you’re on the move – my home looks bald and it is exhausting

A GYPSY woman has revealed the truth about travelling and how it's much harder than it looks.

Charlotte Ann took to social media to show just how hard the nomadic lifestyle was - something she wasn't sure she was ready for.

She said: "Genuinely don't know how the travellers years ago cope with travelling constantly.

"Cause look, can you see the state of me?"

Charlotte looked exhausted from taking all of her home goods in the caravan and putting them away so they didn't get damaged during their next drive.

She added: "How did you just cope with constantly having to pack all your stuff down?"

Charlotte moved into the caravan earlier this year after getting married and couldn't understand how people packed up every other day to travel.

She revealed she was moving once a week and still found it utterly exhausting.

To make the caravan feel more like home she had kitted it out with lots of trinkets, which she said could be adding to the problem.

But Charlotte wasn't ready to give up her home decor.

She continued: "Even though I am half Gypsy, half traveller, I don't know if it was built for the lifestyle that was born into.

"Cause I'm really struggling here guys."

The clip posted to her TikTok account @charlotteann00 went viral with over 75k views and 3,900k likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments and offered suggestions to make packing down easier.

One person wrote: "I don't know how ya do it I'd lose my mind I lose the will to live packing my shopping away once a week."

Another commented: "I'm not a traveller but I've a caravan it's hard work I always think how do traveller's live in them it's really not easy."

"I didn’t realise you’d have to pack it up and take it down! Feel for you," penned a third.

Facts on gypsy and traveller communities

Typically, gypsies is a term used to describe Romani people who migrated to Europe from India while traveller refers to a person with either Irish, Scottish or English heritage.

Around 300,000 Gypsy, Roma and Irish travellers are thought to live in the UK.

All three groups come from nomadic ways of life, however, as it is increasingly difficult to find land to live on, many are moving into permanent housing.

They place high value on family life and often live close together even after reaching adult years and getting married.

Often the men are the breadwinners of the family while the women stay home.

While many English gypsy girls are allowed to drink alcohol and go on holiday with their friends before they get married, their Irish counterparts are not.

Meanwhile a fourth said: "Child locks? To stop cupboards opening so some things don't need moving maybe?"

"We are not travellers but we have a campervan. We use foam inserts for plates and cups. For us that was a game changer,” claimed a fifth.

Someone else added: “Back in the old days people didn’t have as many things maybe."
