With a release date still yet to be confirmed for his next New Balance collaboration, Salehe Bembury will put the first pairs out into the world by giving them away.
Highlighter yellow forms the shoe’s mesh base, with a number of shades dispersed throughout the sneaker, including a mustard shaggy suede toe tip and a chartreuse suede heel overlay. For many, the highlight of the collaboration will be the 530’s “N” logo, which takes on Bembury’s signature fingerprint motif.
Originally released in 1992 as a performance running sneaker, the 530 appears to be next up as a focal point for New Balance’s retro lineup. While still early on its return, the model was chosen for Miu Miu’s red hot collaboration that released earlier this year and is expected to be transformed into a mule for the follow-up collab.
Bembury’s last link-up with New Balance came at the beginning of the year with the “Heat Be Hot” capsule for the 1906R , one of the brand’s most popular models at the moment. The two colorways are arguably the most covetable of Bembury’s New Balance sneakers yet with the red and yellow gradient “Lava” edition selling for as much as $1,200 on the resale market.
The sought-after sneaker designer also announced last week a new partnership with Puma , for which he’ll design its next signature basketball sneaker.
The Salehe Bembury x New Balance 530 giveaway is scheduled for 12 to 5 p.m. at Etage Projects in Copenhagen, with pairs available for free as long as supplies yet.
