Watch Tyler Childers Laugh Off Angry London Crowd Begging Him To Play “Feathered Indians”

Taking it back to the beginning of the year when Tyler Childers was making a run through the UK. I think it's safe to say that Childers has moved on from the song that blew him up, "Feathered Indians," hardly giving it stage time these days. While it is an excellent ditty, his catalog is far more expansive today, allowing him to pick and choose songs from each album to feature during his shows. In Febuary, Childers
brought his Kentucky flare to London but was not having it when fans from the crowd started chanting for the hit off his 2017 album, Purgatory. Instead of completely ignoring the requests, Childers commented to the crowd that he wouldn't play it and continued with his intended setlist. After the pleads for the song became borderline angry, he laughed to himself before addressing the crowd: "Somebody told me that is poor showmanship. At least I'm being honest... so thank you." Childers' joking about how he is past the phase of his career of catering to every song shouted out to him from the crowd is honestly a hilarious answer. While this might not be the most popular opinion, "Feathered Indians" isn't even the best song in his catalog, so let the man cook and give you a spiritual experience when he is on stage. Childers has not completely nixed all of his hits from the setlist, but as he has gotten sober, certain ones do not serve him anymore. He still does the classics like "Lady May" and "Whitehouse Road," and if you're lucky, maybe you'll get to hear "Shake The Frost" or "Nose To The Grindstone," but "Feathered Indians" is few, and far between these days.
Seeing this video pop up so long after it happened reminded me of a much more recent incident in which Childers delivered a hilarious monologue about those who attend his shows. He started off thanking those who spent their hard-earned money to attend his concert and how appreciative he is of the fans who are there to listen and enjoy his art. He does make some hilariously witty jabs at those who leave his concert b**ching about how he didn't play the hits, and it lands even better after seeing this video from London. “There’s going to be at least two people who walk away from this, and they’re like, ‘You know what? I had an absolutely terrible time at that Tyler Childers show.’ It’s going to happen. I’m telling you, I did the numbers." He later impersonates the fans who leave his shows with this mentality, noting that they are often obnoxious drunks on their phone, not paying attention, and probably only bought the ticket in hopes of hearing one or two specific songs from his early days. “Woooooooooo play ‘Oneida!’ ‘Whitehouse Road!'” Tyler Childers keeps selling out arenas, so he could probably sing the phonebook at his rate, and folks would still show up. He does not need "Feathered Indians" to draw a crowd anymore.
