Half Waif announced her sixth album, See You At The Maypole, due out on October 4 via ANTI-. It follows 2021’s Mythopoetics and her 2024 EP Ephemeral Being, and she worked on it with her longtime collaborator Zubin Hensler. Other contributors include Jason Burger and Zack Levine (drums and percussion), Blue Ranger’s Josh Marre (guitar), Hannah Epperson and Elena Moon Park (violin), Kristina Teuschler (clarinet), Willem de Koch (trombone), Rebecca El-Saleh (harp), and Spencer Zahn (upright bass). Tinashe‘s new album Quantum Baby is out this month, and she’s announced a tour for it. The “Match My Freak World Tour” currently includes North American dates with Raveena in the fall, and she says shows in Europe, UK, Asia, and Australia are coming soon. Tickets to all North American dates go on sale Friday, August 9 at 10 AM local, with various presales starting today (8/6) at 2 PM local.

Bright Eyes‘ highly anticipated new album Five Dice, All Threes is out in September (pre-order on red and orange vinyl), and they’ve given us a second early taste with “Rainbow Overpass,” a raw, urgent track featuring Alex Orange Drink of The So So Glos. “Alex and I wrote a lot of the songs together, but ‘Rainbow Overpass’ is the only one he gets [to sing] a verse,” Conor Oberst says. “He’s kinda like my hype man, getting a little Beastie Boys on the shit! They grew up on punk rock and the Beasties, so there are a lot of little bursts of other voices. I like that. It creates energy. Sometimes music can feel flat until you get into a live situation, when there’s adrenaline and raw energy. Instead of working in reverse, where that happens as we tour, I was trying to get some of that energy onto the record.”

The Smile, the trio of Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, and former Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner, started off 2024 by releasing their second album, Wall of Eyes (one of our favorites of the year so far), and by March they’d debuted a new song live, “Don’t Get Me Started.” As Stereogum points out, that and another new track, “The Slip,” have now been released on a 12″. It’s currently only available in record stores, and hasn’t been formally announced by the band (though they have been posting a bunch of teasers on social media). The Wolfgang Press, who released many great records on 4AD during the label’s imperial ’80s / ’90s era, are gearing up to release A 2nd Shape, their first album in 29 years, in September. The first single from the album is “Sad Surfer,” was just released. It’s an understated little number powered by a vintage rhythm box and tremolo’d guitar chords which lap like waves. What makes this unmistakably The Wolfgang Press, however, is Michael Allen’s voice which slips between a whispery baritone and plaintive wails. It’s good to have them back.
