Andy Reid Has Perfect Explanation For Surprise Guest At Chiefs Training Camp

More than a few eyebrows arched when former Las Vegas Raiders coach Jon Gruden was spotted alongside coach Andy Reid at the training camp of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Gruden has spent several days with the reigning NFL champions, apparently upon the invitation of Reid. Curious fans were quick to theorize that Gruden might be angling to get a spot on Reid's staff.

When asked about Gruden's presence in the Chiefs' training camp, Reid gave a perfect explanation .

“He loves football,” Reid said, as quoted in a report by Chiefs Wire. “He and I go way back 30 years, so we’ve known each other for a long time. So it’s good to get him up here.

"He’s always had good input on things. He’s very smart. He’s a great football coach.”

As Reid pointed out, he and Gruden are quite familiar with each other. They served together as coordinators for the Green Bay Packers from 1992 to 1994.

Despite three Super Bowl titles already tucked under his potbelly, Reid is always open to learning from his colleagues. It's that level of modesty that also makes him a great coach.

To recall, the 60-year-old Gruden resigned from the Raiders in 2021 after his emails filled with racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and explicit remarks were exposed. Last year, he served as a consultant for the New Orleans Saints before moving to Italy to serve as an advisor for a club in Milan.

It remains unclear if Gruden will be given a permanent role with the Chiefs. But surely, his time with Reid and the team has been nothing but beneficial.
