    Aldi brings major new change to stores that will change how you shop forever

    Aldi is introducing a major new partnership that will change your shopping experience forever .

    The grocery giant is joining forces with Instacart to introduce the Instacart Connected Store technology throughout their outlets in the United States. The initiative will mean bring major changes for US customers .

    Customers in the US will be able to use features made possible by the Connected Stores’ physical store and e-commerce capabilities.

    This means an in-depth shopping experience where shoppers will be able to sort items by aisle , check what's in stock, and use the Instacart app to gain access to in-store discounts and promotions.

    Many more features will also be available, including the carrot tag system where a consumer can choose an item on their phone and then wait for a corresponding shelf label to flash.

  • Aldi will also deploy Instacart tech to help with order fulfillment making the experience easier for both the staff in store picking the order and the collecting customer. Aldi is looking to take the collaboration global as well, with ALDI SOUTH Group set to pilot Instacart's Caper Carts in stores in Austria, which will be the first time the smart carts have been used outside of the United States.

    David McIntosh, VP and GM of Connected Stores at Instacart said of the partnership: “Retailers like ALDI SOUTH Group value Instacart’s omnichannel solutions, which help them provide even more personalized and convenient shopping experiences for their customers.

    "With a large portion of customers preferring a blend of in-store and online experiences, ALDI SOUTH Group is enabling the best of both worlds to its customers through our technologies. We’re thrilled that ALDI SOUTH Group is the first retailer to test Caper Carts in Europe, enabling us to bring Instacart’s leading grocery technology to the region for the first time. Since launching Caper Carts with other retailers in the U.S., we’ve seen an incredibly positive response from customers of all ages and we’re excited to begin scaling globally.”

    Meanwhile, Scott Patton, VP of national buying at ALDI U.S. stressed that the collaboration is all about improving customer experience. He said: “By integrating Instacart’s Connected Stores technologies nationwide, we are creating a seamless shopping journey for the millions of customers that shop with us every day.

    “Whether shopping online, through mobile app, or visiting our stores, customers can manage their weekly grocery shopping through multiple touchpoints both quickly and affordably.” ALDI U.S. now has over 2300 stores in 38 states and is No. 28 on The PG 100, Progressive Grocer’s 2024 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.

    They were also named the 2023 Retailer of the Year and placed among the 10 Most Sustainable Grocers in 2024. Instacart meanwhile has joined forces with 1,500 national, regional and local retail banners to facilitate online shopping, delivery and pickup services from 85,000-plus stores across North America on the Instacart Marketplace.
