Paul Finebaum Predicts Which Teams Will Play In The SEC Championship Game

Heading into a new college football season brings extra excitement due to the new matchups resulting from conference realignment.

One highly anticipated matchup that fans may see at least twice this year involves two projected preseason top-five teams: the Georgia Bulldogs and the Texas Longhorns. They are scheduled to face off in October during a regular-season game, and they are also favorites to meet again in the SEC Championship Game.

ESPN's Paul Finebaum agrees that both teams will play in the conference championship game. However, he also thinks the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Ole Miss Rebels could spoil the rematch.

"I'm with the favorites right now, and the favorites are Georgia and Texas," Finebaum said. "I think you could certainly make a case for Alabama as the next school or Ole Miss. There's really a thin line once you get past Georgia."

The ESPN Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that aims best to predict a team's future performance throughout the season. According to the FPI, Georgia is heavily favored to win the conference, followed by the Longhorns. Surprisingly, the next two teams in the ranking are Alabama and Missouri, rather than Alabama and Ole Miss, as Finebaum predicts.
