American gymnast MyKayla Skinner found herself at the center of a highly-publicized controversy when she questioned the work ethic of the rising generation of athletes. The one-time Olympic silver medalist suggested that this year's Olympic team "doesn't work as hard" as the used to.

Simone Biles fired back at Skinner with a clear jab after this year's United States Olympic team won gold in the team finals.

"Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions," Biles wrote on Instagram.

Skinner took to Instagram with a video message of her own on Tuesday, responding to this caption from her former Olympic teammate. She says this Instagram caption led to a new wave of hate comments and death threats directed toward her and her family.

Skinner made a direct appeal to Biles to help stop the "disgusting" actions she's experienced as a result of this "bullying" over the past few weeks.

"If Simone truly believes I called our team lazy and lacking talent, if that's how she feels, then I am really heartbroken over it... Simone's latest post and others that followed it brought another wave of hateful comments... Hate that includes death threats to me, my family and even my agent. My family and my friends don't deserve to be caught in the crossfire."

"To Simone, I am asking you directly and publicly to please put a stop to this," she continued. "Please ask your followers to stop. You have been an incredible champion for mental health awareness and a lot of people need your help now. We have been hurt and attacked in ways I'm sure you never intended."
