    Jeopardy! legend James Holzhauer's eye-watering earnings as he celebrates 40th birthday

    Jeopardy! fans are commemorating a special day today as gameshow legend James Holzhauer reels in his 40th birthday.

    Holzhauer often referred to as the Jeopardy "final boss" is celebrating a major milestone today as he turns 40 years old. And in honor of the famous fan favorite player, we're taking a look at some of James' most impressive gameshow moments over his past 33 appearances on the hit series.

    Over the years, James has become a familiar face for Jeopardy fans as he has continues to dominate the quiz show and has become the second-highest winner in the show's history, dating all the way back to 1964. James bagged this famous title after generating a total earnings of $2,464,216 on show and breaking more than a few records along the way.

    During James' appearances on the show, he has gone on to land a number of titles including being a part of the top 10 contestants with the highest single-game scores. O n April 17, 2019, James joined this elite group after correctly answering 40 trivia questions in a row and generating a score of $131,127. And according to Primetimer , in the same game James also won the largest Daily Double wager ever at $25,000 and the largest Final Jeopardy! wager as well at $60,013.

    Not only this, but James also holds the title for the fourth longest winning streak in the gameshow's history at 32 consecutive regular show wins. James holds this title following Ken Jennings with 74 consecutive wins, Amy Schneider with 40 and Matt Amodio with 38.

    During his run on Jeopardy! Alex had a number of wins including being crowned the champion during his apperance on the 2019 Jeopardy! T ournament of Champions during which he beat out his fellow players Emma Boettcher and Francois Barcomb. James also went on to be crowned the winner of Jeopardy! Masters season 1 bringing home the life-changing sum of $500,000. During this game, James surpassed the scores of his fellow intelligent contestants Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach.

    Jeopardy! fans later discovered a shocking statistic about James as he was reported to be cashing in more money than former host Alex Trebek during his legendary winning streak. According to The Guardian , James' average daily winnings from the show totaled a whopping $76,944 which is two times higher than what Alex was reportedly being paid per episode which was an estimated at $34,000. After his trail of wins, Alex has also become the third highest-earning American game show contestant of all time.
