While things weren’t in King Aegon II’s favor during the events of Season 2, actor Tom Glynn-Carney says that viewers will see a different side of his character in House of the Dragon Season 3.
The second season featured Aegon being burned by his brother and quickly becoming “a shell of himself.” Spending his days in his bedchamber has given a “fire” in Aegon’s eyes, who is ready to exact revenge on anyone who did him wrong.
“I think he had a lot of his swag taken away from him by nature of how restricting it was — to be burned at that level you lose a lot of your movement and your confidence. When you’ve got people coming into your bedchamber to clean you up and help you go to the bathroom your dignity is the last thing on your mind,” Glynn-Carney told TheWrap.
He continued, “I think he did for a while become a shell of himself, but I think now the way we see him in Episode 8, we see him quite cold and focused. There’s a fire in his eyes that I’ve certainly not seen that’ll lead us into Season 3. This new focused, cold version of the man who wants to exact revenge.”
Who else stars in House of the Dragon?
House of the Dragon, a spin-off series of the popular Game of Thrones franchise, is based on parts of George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. It follows the rise and fall of the Targaryen family, set nearly 200 years before the events of the original. In addition to Glynn-Carney, the series also stars Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, and Eve Best, among others.
The synopsis for House of the Dragon Season 2 reads: “In King’s Landing, Aegon II rules from the Iron Throne, supported by Alicent and the Green Council, under the protection of the largest dragon in Westeros. From exile on Dragonstone, Queen Rhaenyra, and her Black Council consider their next move. Civil war looms as both sides seek support from the great houses of Westeros, ultimately amassing armies — and dragons.”
