Amazon Prime "Thursday Night Football" broadcasters from the 2023-24 NFL season.

As far as NFL insiders go, Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer is right up there with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Fox’s Jay Glazer among the most trusted sources in the industry.

Breer’s sterling reputation may have landed him a cushy new gig as he’s reportedly in talks to join Amazon’s “Thursday Night Football” team as an editorial consultant and on-air contributor, according to Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post .

Breer will likely replace legendary analyst Chris Mortenson, who died of throat cancer in March and had been previously serving in the role for Amazon.

The 44-year-old veteran journalist is just the latest example of Amazon’s willingness to invest boatloads of money into NFL coverage. The company is locked into an 11-year, $11 billion deal for the broadcast rights to “Thursday Night Football,” and it also paid a hefty $100M to stream the NFL’s first Black Friday game in 2023 and will dish out another $120 million for the exclusive streaming rights to a playoff game in 2024.

Breer’s new role won’t interfere with his duties at Sports Illustrated, which include writing the site’s “Monday Morning Quarterback” column — a role he inherited when Peter King left to join NBC Sports in 2018 — as well as spearheading the MMQB, the NFL vertical for SI.com.

Breer is also a frequent contributor to NBC Sports Boston’s New England Patriots coverage. (One of Breer’s first jobs in the NFL was covering the Patriots.)

A longtime NFL journalist, Breer’s previous stops include The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, The Dallas Morning News, NFL Network and The Sporting News.
