Aulander man charged in shooting, kidnapping

An Aulander man is facing charges after allegedly shooting one person and kidnapping another.

Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin said his office received a call concerning a domestic disturbance in Aulander at around 7 a.m. Monday morning.

“The area was quickly saturated with members of the Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Investigative Divisions, along with officers from the Down East Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office and Ahoskie Police Department,” Sheriff Ruffin relayed. “Units quickly located the kidnapped victim, as well as an individual with apparent gunshot wounds.”

The sheriff said both victims were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and are expected to make a complete recovery.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Rahjon Green Jr. of Aulander, fled on foot into a wooded area off Connaritsa Road.

The Bertie County Sheriff’s Office Special Ops Unit deployed a drone and the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office deployed a K-9 officer to assist with the search for the suspect.

After a brief search, Green was taken into custody without further incident.

He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, two counts of assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon, armed robbery, first degree kidnapping, second degree kidnapping, shooting into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling/vehicle, communicating threats and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Green was confined to the Bertie-Martin Regional Jail under no bond.
