    Who is Tasha Ghouri?

Born on August 8, 1998, Tasha Ghouri is a reality star and model from Thirsk, North Yorkshire .

She was born deaf and was initially fitted for hearing aids before being given a single cochlear implant just before her fifth birthday.

Tasha later underwent speech therapy, and was unable to speak until she was five, having communicated entirely in sign language until that point.

Growing up she took up dancing as a profession, and was even featured in the music video for More Than Words, by Sleepwalkrs featuring MNEK.

Tasha’s dance experience is bound to help her when she takes part in Strictly in autumn 2024.

The star has also works as a model, and has worked for brands like L’Oreal Paris, Simmi Shoes and Ann Summers.

In 2023, she released her very first book which she is hoping to strike a deal with Netflix to turn it into a show.

When is Tasha Ghouri on Strictly Come Dancing?

In autumn 2024, fans will be able to watch Tasha strutting her stuff on the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor.

She said she was “excited” and “nervous” ahead of taking part in the show.

The reality star then defended her position on the show despite being a dancer – saying “I’ve not danced for quite a few years – it’s such a different dance style, it’s going to be very hard. I’m excited for a challenge.”

Tasha added: “I feel nervous, excited, I feel like I’m about to throw up.

“I feel like this is actually happening, it didn’t feel real until I’m sat here now.”

When did Tasha Ghouri date Giovanni Pernice?

Tasha reportedly dated under fire dancer Giovanni Pernice.

The pair shared a few dinners before she joined ITV2’s dating show in the summer of 2022.

The Sicilian dancer had just lifted the Glitterball trophy with Rose Ayling-Ellis and was at the prime of his TV career.

It was reported that Gio and Tasha connected via Instagram and messaged for months before he wined and dined her in January 2022.

Their fling was said to have fizzled out due to him being on the Strictly tour.

Gio has since left Strictly after his 2023 dance partner Amanda Abbington said she had PTSD after rehearsing with him.

What else has Tasha Ghouri starred in?

Tasha is best known for starring in the eighth series of Love Island in 2022.

After entering the villa, she quickly coupled up with fellow island Andrew Le Page.

The couple didn’t have the easiest time in the villa – with both of them re-coupling with other love interests after Casa Amor.

But the pair found their way back to one another and left Love Island as a couple.

I don’t often talk about the struggles that come with being deaf and wearing a cochlear implant.

What has Tasha Ghouri said about her cochlaer implant?

Tasha made history on Love Island as the show’s first deaf contestant.

She has often spoken openly about using a cochlear implant that helps her to hear.

Addressing her fans on Instagram, Tasha candidly wrote: “I don’t often talk about the struggles that come with being deaf and wearing a cochlear implant.

“I deal with social anxiety massively, a lot of that came from the ableist comments I received and still do to this day.

“Common thoughts that run through my head is ‘what if I can’t hear whoever is speaking to me?’, ‘What if I completely misunderstand?’, ‘What if my voice gets judged?’, ‘What if someone comes over and takes out my implant?’ and so many more.”

She went on: “It’s something I’m still coping with and it’s a journey for sure!

“Most of the time I’d rather just stay in my little flat and not face it ”

Continuing Tasha explained that due to having to read lips and focus on conversations, she gets concentration fatigue.

“By the end of the day I suffer with migraines and headaches, I’ll be completely worn out and drained to the point I can’t even speak.

“Hence why I nap a lot – napping helps me to recharge and get my energy back!” she said. ⠀

Tasha also said she was so grateful for her implant and the opportunities it has given her, but added: “Just because I have a cochlear implant doesn’t mean I’m fixed. I have my struggles behind closed doors and so does everyone.”

Before going on Love Island she had already represented the deaf community as an Asos model, with her cochlear implant visible in a campaign.

    What is a cochlear implant

A cochlear implant is a surgical procedure aimed at helping deaf people have a sensation of hearing

The implant is an electronic system that stimulates the nerve of hearing in the cochlear – which converts the vibrations into nerve impulses which are carried to the brain.

It can give a sensation of sound to profoundly deaf people who have been unable to hear even when using the most powerful hearing aids available.

The cochlear implant system is made up of several pieces of equipment, which work together to provide the sensation of hearing.

The microphone clips into the ear and picks up sound which is converted into an electrical signal in the speech processor.
