A United Airlines flight en route to the US had to make an unscheduled landing at Dublin Airport on Tuesday due to a technical malfunction . The flight, UA119, took off from Edinburgh around 11.45 am yesterday, setting off for Chicago's O'Hare International Airport.

But as it was cruising over the Atlantic Ocean, close to Iceland, the pilots identified a problem with the plane's hydraulics systems. Air Traffic Control in Dublin was promptly informed, leading the aircraft to perform a U-turn and head towards Dublin Airport.

After nearly four hours in the air post-takeoff, the plane touched down safely on runway 28L at Dublin Airport, where a complete emergency response protocol was activated , including airport fire services and Dublin Fire Brigade readiness, reports the Irish Mirror .

As the Boeing 757-200 came to a standstill on the tarmac following its urgent descent, Dublin Airport Fire and Rescue Service vehicles were seen positioned near it. Mandatory maintenance checks were carried out at Dublin Airport resulting in the eventual cancellation of the flight.

United Airlines acknowledged the glitch stating there was a fault related to an indicator light in the cockpit, which led to all passengers disembarking once the flight was grounded in Dublin.

Dublin Airport Authority confirmed the divert: "DAA, the operator of Dublin Airport, can confirm that flight UA119, flying from Edinburgh to Chicago , diverted to Dublin Airport this afternoon, safely landing shortly before 3.30 pm."

"The flight landed safely, and all passengers deplaned normally at the gate. We are rebooking our customers on alternative flights to get them to their final destinations as soon as possible."
