Prince Posthumously Inducted Into Songwriters Hall of Fame

    2024-08-07

Prince Rogers Nelson sadly passed away on April 21, 2016. It's been eight years since the beloved entertainer left us and his millions of fans are still grieving the loss. On July 27, 2024 Prince was posthumously inducted into The Songwriters Hall of Fame. The award was accepted by his older, half-sister Sharon Nelson on his behalf, at the Target Center in Prince’s hometown of Minneapolis.

"You will always remember his songs. This is the award he wanted more than any other in life – to be known as a great songwriter." A 40th-anniversary screening of Purple Rain, which starred Prince, Clarence Williams III, Apollonia, Morris Day and Jerome Benton took place at the ceremony. Prince is still regarded as one of the world's most talented and influencial musicians of all time. In 2014, Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as receiving many other accolades in his illustrious career.

''He was selected for induction into SHOF in 2013, but his busy schedule meant he was not able to attend the ceremony, according to policy, a songwriter has to attend the gala in person for it to be official. He reached out to the organization in 2015, expressing how much the award meant to him, and that he was available for the 2016 ceremony. Sadly, the singer passed away suddenly that year, just two months before he was scheduled to be inducted,'' according to Mix Mag.
