NFL hits Detroit Lions, New York Giants with massive fines for practice fights

The Detroit Lions and New York Giants have what was perhaps the most fight-filled joint practices in the history of the sport on Monday and Tuesday. And, as a result, both teams will be paying for it.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero , the NFL is fining both the Giants and Lions $200,000 for the countless fist fights that took place on Monday and Tuesday.

Previously, the NFL had reminded teams that fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated.

"The NFL confirmed today that the Detroit Lions and New York Giants organizations have each been fined $200,000 for multiple fights that broke out at the joint practices between the clubs earlier this week," Pelissero reports. "All NFL clubs were reminded in a memo sent last month that fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated."

Both days were equally wild. On Monday, Brad Galli of WXYZ Detroit noted there were over 10 fights.

Things seemed to be more calm when the team took the field on Tuesday, but that quickly ended after yet another fist fight broke out between Lions safety Kerby Joseph and Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers.

From there, all hell continued to break loose throughout the rest of the practice, and so much so that the two teams called things early.

After Monday's session, even head coach Dan Campbell said the fighting was "too much."

“When you have to stop practice that many times to reset the drill, it’s a waste of everybody’s time,” Campbell said, per The Athletic's Colton Pouncy .
