A father chose the worst time to crack a joke about his future grandson .

A woman turned to Reddit to explain the uncomfortable situation. She explained that she’s turning 24 this week, and she is also 30 weeks pregnant . She met with her father for coffee to celebrate.

At the cafe, he pulled out a gift for her. She was exceptionally excited because he rarely gets her presents now that she’s an adult.

When she opened the bag, it was two baby bottles, pacifiers and a bottle warmer. Though these items will be useful, this is her last birthday without children and wanted the day to be about her.

She wrote: “I know I should be grateful. He's trying to help me out, but this is my last birthday before I become a mother, and my own mother has told me that it should be about me.”

Her younger siblings and cousins were also at the outing, and they were eager to hear the baby’s name. That’s when she told them it’s Cody.

Her dad proceeded to laugh and make fun of the name. He kept saying Cod-y, pronouncing it like the fish.

“[He was] telling me it sounded too American (we're British) and that I obviously wanted to be American and that's why I chose it. He then said that the name sounded silly and began to pronounce it in a silly way asking my sisters to laugh and copy him.”

“Then my dad said ‘even the name Bob sounds better than that! So that's what I'm calling him!’”

As he continued to laugh and encouraged the younger kids to laugh, she finally snapped. She yelled at him, telling him to stop disrespecting her.

He told her to calm down, as it was just a joke. She countered, saying even if it’s a joke, it’s not funny because her siblings and cousins will copy him.

In the comments, people agreed that he needs to respect her wishes.

One said: “It’s always a huge red flag when people dismiss your feelings and opinions by saying you are being too sensitive or that they are just joking. It’s the language of a gaslighting person.”

Another wrote: “For what it’s worth, you are allowed to cut toxic people out of your life. You’re also allowed to celebrate the hell out of your birthday. Forever! Do your own thing.”

“Congratulations on your baby! Cody is a fine name.”
