McDonald's New Limited-Edition Meal Has a Retro Collectible Everyone's Going to Want

McDonald’s just announced some major plans and fans can hardly wait. Thankfully, they don't have to wait long!

The fast food chain will be rolling out the new limited-time “Collector’s Meal” on Aug. 13. The meal combines the fast-food giant's well-known food items with one of six collectible cups, each of them decorated with nostalgic references in McDonald's history .

The plastic cups will feature characters like Hot Wheels, Beanie Babies, Barbie, the Coca-Cola polar bears, Hello Kitty and Peanuts, which have all been popular Happy Meal Toys. There will also be cups featuring McDonald’s mascots, and a combination of Shrek, Jurassic Park and Minions, which are also past toys and Happy Meal themes.

Each cup features images of collectibles that were given out in those past Happy Meals. For example, the Barbie cup has images of dolls that have been given out throughout the years.

In a post on McDonald's Instagram teasing the cups the caption read: "In 20 years ur gonna be happy u collected all 6 limited edition cups." And it seems that fans agree. "NEED THE BARBIE AND HELLO KITTY ONE," said one commenter. "Need the hello kitty one BAD," added another. Another person was instantly transported back in time thanks to the photo. "My grandma still has the Shrek cups," they said.

"There's an undeniable thrill when you snag that one elusive McDonald's collectible or the final piece to complete your collection. We're bringing back some of our most-loved keepsakes with a twist, giving fans a memory that they can hold in their hands," Morgan Flatley, McDonald's global chief marketing officer and head of new business ventures, said in a statement. "These new collectible cups commemorate some of our most unforgettable designs and global collaborations over the years, allowing longtime fans to relive treasured moments and helping a new generation make their own lasting memories."

If you want one of these cups, you will need to order a “Collector’s Meal.” The breakfast “Collector’s Meal” includes a sausage and egg McMuffin, a hash brown and a hot coffee with one plastic collector's cup. Other meals include a choice of 10-piece McNuggets or a Big Mac with fries and a soft drink, plus a cup.

The “Collector’s Meal” will be available beginning on Aug. 13 when ordering in-store, online or via the app.

McDonald’s has been a roll with and drumming up feelings of nostalgia for some time now. In October 2023, the fast-food giant reintroduced its popular Boo Buckets just in time for trick-or-treating. Then, in December, the restaurant brought back McNugget Buddies- chicken nugget-shaped toys that were first introduced in 1988.
