ESPN college football analyst Lee Corso was celebrating his 89th birthday on Wednesday, August 7, just before heading into the 2024-25 college football season later this month.

Fellow "College GameDay" panelist Kirk Herbstreit took to social media to share his thoughts on Corso and wish the longtime broadcaster a happy birthday.

Herbstreit credited Corso for helping him work through the analytical process of football on live television while mentioning that he sees the birthday man as an "icon" in the college football landscape.

"Happy 89th birthday to the sunshine scooter," Herbstreit said. "A true icon for the sport of CFB & a dear friend. Be our 29th season together this fall on ⁦⁦College GameDay. So thankful for the on air lessons-the unbelievable memories-but especially you pouring into my heart as a friend!"

Corso was hired by "College GameDay" in 1987 after a coaching career with high-level programs like Florida State, Indiana, and Louisville.

He's also a former college football athlete, serving as the Seminoles' quarterback from 1953-57, while also receiving snaps at the cornerback position.

The 89-year-old wasn't the only analyst with playing experience. Herbstreit, who is currently 54 years old, played quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 1989-93.

Herbstreit has been vocal about his relationship with Corso over the past few years. He's mentioned that he sees Corso as a "father figure," which is fitting since the two enter their 29th season of college football side-by-side on the "College GameDay" panel.

I love Kirk for his passion towards Lee. And I'm a FSU fan. He had nothing to do with the CFP snub.
