The Interstellar rerelease has been pushed back to December.

While Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar was originally going to return to theaters in honor of the movie’s tenth anniversary on September 27, 2024, it will now come approximately two months later on December 6, 2024.

Per Variety, the film will be shown in 70mm Imax prints and on digital screens.

Rumors about the 70mm Interstellar prints being destroyed have been debunked

Rumors circulated online that Paramount may scrap the rerelease altogether after the 70mm prints were reportedly destroyed following the film’s initial release; however, sources speaking to Deadline have debunked this.

“Studio sources dispute a rumor that 70mm prints of Interstellar were destroyed; Paramount claims it has archived more copies of the movie than most other pictures,” the article reads. “However, because reels of film experience wear and tear while playing on the big screen, it’s not uncommon for them to be unusable after their theatrical runs.”

Directed by Nolan, Interstellar was released in United States theaters in November 2024. It made approximately $705.2 million at the global box office off an estimated $165 million budget. The film won Best Visual Effects at the 87th Academy Awards, while it was also nominated for four other Oscars.

The movie stars Matthew McConaughey as Joseph Cooper, Anne Hathaway as Amelia Brand, Jessica Chastain as Murph Cooper, Mackenzie Foy as young Murph, John Lithgow as Donald, Michael Caine as John Brand, Casey Affleck as Tom Cooper, Timothée Chalamet as young Tom, Wes Bentley as Doyle, Topher Grace as Getty, and Bill Irwin as the voice of TARS.

“In Earth’s future, a global crop blight and second Dust Bowl are slowly rendering the planet uninhabitable,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “Professor Brand (Michael Caine), a brilliant NASA physicist, is working on plans to save mankind by transporting Earth’s population to a new home via a wormhole. But first, Brand must send former NASA pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and a team of researchers through the wormhole and across the galaxy to find out which of three planets could be mankind’s new home.”

Interstellar returns to theaters and 70mm Imax on December 6, 2024.
