    Black Panther star tragically died after asking for support for career milestone in final post

    In her last Instagram post before her death, Black Panther actress Connie Chiume urged fans to vote for her in an upcoming awards ceremony.

    The 72-year-old died on Tuesday in a hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa due to a "medical procedure." Before her tragic death, the star was looking forward to the seventh annual Royalty Soapie Awards.

    Her last post on her page showed love to her TV show Gomora and her castmates. She was nominated for Outstanding Female Villain and Viewer's Choice Best Actress at the South African award show.

    She captioned her post: "@royaltysoapieawards SIYABONGA AMA NOMINATION wow wow… ai my Gomora family, let’s go. Let’s continue voting, it’s your choice," with various emojis.

    Last year at the Royalty Soapie Awards, Connie won the Lifetime Achievement Award for her contribution to acting. The awards' Instagram page shared a lengthy tribute to the icon.

    "In Loving Memory of Mama Connie Chiume," it read, "With heavy hearts, we mourn the loss of an extraordinary talent and beloved icon."

    The statement continued: "Mama Connie Chiume, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 6th Royalty Soapie Awards, touched countless lives with her remarkable performances and grace. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift us all.

    "Rest in peace, Mama Connie. Your light will forever shine in our hearts," it ended. Celebrities have also shared their condolences for the star.

    Lupita Nyong'o, Connie's Black Panther co-star, shared a photo of Connie on Instagram. "We have lost a library! May @conniechiume rest in peace and power," she captioned the photo.

    Besides starring as a Wakanda elder, Connie was known for appearing on South African television shows like Rhythm City, Zone 14, and Gomora. She also appeared in Beyonce's musical film Black is King.

    Her son, Nongelo, shared the news of her passing with Newzroom Afrika. Connie's family also shared a statement on her Instagram page about her death.

    "The Chiume Family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. Connie Chiume, 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on 6 August 2024," it read, "The Family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details."
