You’ve got to love Donnie Wahlberg for his unstoppable belief in his hit series Blood Bloods.

Even though CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach has undeniably stated that there is no chance of Blue Bloods being uncanceled the way that S.W.A.T. was, Wahlberg continues to express his optimism that that will change.

In an Instagram post by melissa.nkotb , who appears to be an audience member at a New Kids on the Block concert, Wahlberg is asked about the status of Blue Bloods.

“Well, we filmed the apparent last season of Blue Bloods , and it’ll air starting in October. Maybe there’ll be something else after that. I don’t know anything officially yet, but there’s things in the works. So maybe something awesome will happen,” Wahlberg answers.

Then he adds, ““You know I’ll do things after Blue Bloods no matter what.”

The implication is that one of the things could be a Blue Bloods spinoff, because as reported on June 5 , Paramount Global co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted that a new Blue Bloods series is in the works.

Robbins said, “In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter , Billions and Blue Bloods .”

And Robbins has since been backed up in his statement by CBS Studios President David Stapf , who told Deadline that while there are no immediate spinoff plans, they are trying to figure out a way to make the series a franchise.

“We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon but it’s a brand, a title and a show that is beloved,” Stapf told Deadline . “We’ve got to get it right so we’re taking our time and trying to figure it out, OK, what is the next iteration of Blue Bloods ? We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long as to how good that show is, so there’s still time for us to figure that out.”

While a spinoff featuring Wahlberg’s character Danny Reagan is a possibility, it would be odd if it did not include Tom Selleck (Frank Reagan) and the rest of the Reagan family like Erin ( Bridget Moynahan ) and Jamie ( Will Estes ).

But what Parade has previously suggested would make sense is a spinoff that would take us undercover with Frank’s grandson Detective Joe Hill ( Will Hochman ). Joe, the son of Frank’s late son Joe Reagan and Paula Hill, was a secret from the Reagan clan until a few years ago. His mother raised him without him knowing who his family was, but that didn’t stop him from becoming a cop, just like this father, grandfather and uncles. Joe has tried to accept the fact that he has this large family, but he has had trouble adjusting—especially to Jamie. That said, Joe is an excellent cop, and he takes on some of the hardest and most dangerous cases, which could make for great television, and we have only seen the tip of the iceberg as far as his story is concerned.

But the best part of a show about Joe Hill is that the family could drop in from time to time, keeping the original Blue Bloods alive in that way.

Blue Bloods will return for the final eight episodes of its 14 th and final season on Oct. 18 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.
