( NewsNation ) — Former Trump administration official Anthony Scaramucci warned Wednesday that his ex-boss’s economic proposals could lead to a fiscal crisis and bankrupt Social Security .

Scaramucci, speaking on NewsNation’s “Elizabeth Vargas Reports,” criticized former President Donald Trump ‘s call to end taxation of Social Security benefits , as it would amount to a loss of nearly $2 trillion in revenue for the federal government.

“What Mr. Trump is calling for is very dangerous. He’s over-promising people,” said Scaramucci, who briefly served as White House communications director in 2017. “He either won’t be able to deliver on those promises, or he’ll put us in a fiscal crisis.”

Scaramucci said the cumulative deficit from George Washington’s presidency through George W. Bush’s administration amounted to $7 trillion. Trump generated $7.8 trillion in deficit spending over his four-year term.

The comments come as the economy remains a top issue for voters ahead of the presidential election, just 90 days away. Recent market volatility and fears of a recession have fueled concerns about the nation’s financial outlook.

Scaramucci defended President Joe Biden’s economic record, arguing that despite public perception, “good things are happening.” He cited the onshoring of manufacturing, domestic microchip production and infrastructure improvements as positive developments.

Scaramucci joined NewsNation to promote his new book, “From Wall Street to the White House and Back: The Scaramucci Guide to Unbreakable Resilience.”
