Metro Produce Distributors Inc. of Minneapolis has announced a voluntary recall of all Lunds & Byerlys fresh guacamole products with a use-by date of August 2, 2024, the FDA says.

The recall is due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a bacterium that can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

The FDA says that Listeria is "sometimes fatal" in these affected populations.

These products, sold in clear plastic containers, were available at Lunds & Byerlys grocery stores throughout the Twin Cities area and St. Cloud, and in select ‘Taco Mas’ food bars from July 27-31.

Although no illnesses have been reported, Listeria is serious. It's important to discard these products if you bought them. Don't eat them!

The potential contamination was discovered through routine sampling by the company. In response, Metro Produce Distributors has ceased production and distribution of the affected products and is conducting a thorough investigation with oversight from the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the FDA said in its statement on the recall.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled guacamole are advised to destroy the products or return them to any Lunds & Byerlys store for a full refund. For further information, customers can contact Metro Produce at 612-436-3825.
