One of the most accomplished wrestlers to ever compete at the Olympics, Kyle Dake has seemingly done it all at 33. The Ithaca-born wrestler looks to continue to add accolades to his trophy case at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
Dake went to Cornell, just south of the Fingers Lakes’ Cayuga Lake, where he won four NCAA Division I Championship titles for the Big Red from 2010-2013. The Development Sociology major also won three gold medals at the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Championships.
Starting at Greco-Roman before moving to freestyle, Dake earned the prestigious Dan Hodge Trophy. He would later win gold at the U.S. Open, Pan American Championships, and the World Cup. Dake won bronze in the 2020 Olympics, losing against Magomedkhabib Kadimagomedov in a massive upset, with Kadimagomedov scoring a technical fall against him for the first time in five years.
The 33-year-old Dake is one of the oldest wrestlers on Team USA. Looking to win gold, he has no desire to step away from competition.

"There were plenty of opportunities for me to move on from wrestling," Dake told CNBC Make It . "Job opportunities where I’d be making a lot more money and living a more secure life. But that wasn’t something I wanted to do. I wanted to make it work and be able to compete and wrestle at the highest level."
"What is it going to cost for me to give up my dreams of becoming an Olympic gold medalist?" he said. "We couldn’t put a number on it. I don’t wrestle for income, I don’t wrestle because it’s easy, Dake added. "I wrestle because it’s something that I want to do."
