Algerian boxer Imane Khelif is on the brink of clinching a gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics Games , amidst a gender controversy that has become one of the tournament's most talked-about issues .

Khelif, who will compete for her chance to secure gold this Friday, has been embroiled in a gender dispute following a 2023 decision by the now-prohibited International Boxing Association (IBA) that disqualified her for failing a gender eligibility test.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dismissed the results of the IBA-ordered tests as arbitrary and illegitimate, stating there was no justification for them.

When is Imane Khelif's gold medal bout?

Khelif will battle for gold this Friday at Roland Garros Stadium at 22.51 Paris time (20:51 GMT).

Khelif will go up against China's Yang Liu in the welterweight category during the final match.

Khelif's victorious run started with her round of 16 win against Italy's Angela Carini on August 1, after Carini withdrew from the game, which lasted only 46 seconds.

The Algerian pugilist then faced Hungary's Anna Luca Hamori in the quarterfinals, which she won following a unanimous decision.

On Tuesday, Khelif defeated Thailand's Janjaem Suwannapheng 5-0 in the semifinals at Court Philippe-Chatrier, paving her way to the finals.
