Philadelphia Eagles’ long-time quarterback and former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles has officially announced his retirement from the NFL after a remarkable 11-season career.

The announcement came on Thursday, marking the end of an era for the player who became a beloved figure in Philadelphia sports history.

Foles, renowned for his legendary 2017 playoff run with the Eagles, revealed his decision with a heartfelt message.

“After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided to retire from the NFL,” Foles shared. “It’s been an incredible 11-year journey filled with unforgettable moments and amazing people.”

The pinnacle of Foles’ career came during the 2017 postseason when he stepped in for an injured Carson Wentz. With the Eagles holding the top seed in the NFC, Wentz tore his ACL against the Rams, leaving Foles to lead the team.

Despite skepticism from fans and analysts, Foles guided the Eagles to the Super Bowl.

In a historic run, the Eagles became the first-ever top seed to be underdogs in their divisional-round matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, a game they won.

Foles then led Philadelphia to a stunning 38-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings, who boasted the league’s best defense.

In Super Bowl LII, Foles orchestrated a thrilling 41-33 win against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, even as Brady set a Super Bowl record with 505 passing yards. Foles was named Super Bowl MVP for his heroics.

In his retirement announcement, Foles expressed gratitude to all the teams he played for, including the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars.

However, he reserved special thanks for Eagles fans, stating, “From being drafted by the Eagles to winning the Super Bowl, every step has been a blessing.”

Foles will retire as an Eagle and is set to officially announce his retirement during the team’s Week 2 matchup and home opener against the Atlanta Falcons. The crowd at Lincoln Financial Field is expected to be buzzing, paying tribute to a quarterback whose career will be fondly remembered by Eagles fans.
