Fort Washakie Man Sentenced for Golf Club Assault

Cheyenne, WY – Aaron Clair Bigknife, a 58-year-old resident of Fort Washakie, Wyoming, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for an assault that resulted in serious bodily injury. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson on August 6 in Cheyenne.

The incident occurred on the night of August 27, 2023, when Bigknife, who was playing cards at a friend’s house, unprovokedly struck one of his friends in the head with a golf club. According to the complaint, Bigknife admitted to drinking heavily before and during the card game. He claimed to have no recollection of the assault until his arrest by the police.

The case was investigated by the FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael J. Elmore.
