Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence doesn't hold back while reflecting on 2024 training camp so far

There's no secret that the Jacksonville Jaguars severely underperformed last season, and somewhat threw their hopes of the playoffs away. In Week 8, they were the no. 1 seed in the AFC and had the opportunity to extend that with games against some really good teams -- very winnable games. But, ultimately they choked, and that happens, so we can't harp on it too long.

But the thing that really makes the fan base upset about it all is that they were the Cinderella team the year before -- the team that beat the Los Angeles Chargers in a crazy playoff game almost beat the Kansas City Chiefs, and had a chance to come back in 2023 and get even better. only they got significantly worse.

But, there is a bright side. With how bad they played last year, the Jaguars still almost made the playoffs. Now, they have had training camp, made some improvements to their roster, and are hungrier than ever. Camp hasn't been perfect, but it's been the one they have needed.

"I think it's been a really productive training camp," Trevor Lawrence told the media on Thursday. "Obviously, as a competitor you want to win every play, every rep, and have a great day walking off of the field and as an offense, feeling like you had a good day. And, we have definitely had some of those days. But we have also had days where the defense has punched us in the mouth a little bit, some tough luck, and stuff that is just really going to help us.

"I think it's been a really good back and forth. It's exciting to me, knowing the challenge our defense has presented to us, it gets me excited for the regular season when we are all the same team, knowing that's the defense that other people are going to have to face... Stuff I felt like we needed to improve on from last year, including myself, I do think we have taken big steps in those areas. Every day has not been perfect or clean, but a lot to learn from it."

Lawrence didn't have a great season in 2023. In fact, some people started calling him a bust. Now, all you had to do to see that he wasn't was watch the film and get a back story on everything that was going on. Lawrence was the most injured he had ever been and played through what felt like five different injuries.

And, he was making some great throws all year, but it felt like his receivers were having major drop issues every week. And, that happens, the Jaguars have moved past it. But now it's time to improve on that 2022 season. If the Jaguars don't make the playoffs this year, there could be some names under fire. This training camp was a very important one, and it appears they had one they needed to have, as Lawrence has connected with his receivers and the offense has improved, hopefully.
