The Pittsburgh Steelers are happy to see Russell Wilson back on the practice field. The veteran quarterback missed nearly two weeks with a calf injury sustained during the team’s initial conditioning tests just before training camp started.

The 35-year-old has been cleared by team doctors and is healthy and practicing and he is glad to be back on the field.

“I’m feeling great,” said Wilson. “Just to be fully in practice and involved and doing everything. I’ve been involved in doing all the drills and everything for the past seven, eight days, however many days it has been. But to be fully in there with the team drills, everything else, it feels great.”

In his absence, fourth-year quarterback Justin Fields has played very well and, in some aspects, has caused the Steelers to have second thoughts on who the starter should be heading into the season.

Wilson will not suit up for the preseason opener on Friday against the Houston Texans and Fields is said to be scheduled to play “a couple of series” in the game.

Wilson is a one-time Super Bowl Champion and knows the game well, but Fields’ physical superiority at just 25 years old cannot be overstated. Wilson, nevertheless, is excited to be in Pittsburgh and ready to do whatever he is asked to do.

“I’m looking forward to our football team, this season and where we can go.”
