Yankees could re-engage trade talks for All-Star third baseman this winter

The New York Yankees made some moves at the trade deadline, and they could be among the teams looking to do more this winter.

Despite adding Jazz Chisholm in a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins just before the deadline, the Yankees could again be in the market to add a true third baseman during the offseason.

With Gleyber Torres likely signing elsewhere as a free agent, Chisholm can move back to second base if the Yankees are inclined to upgrade the hot corner.

After inquiring ahead of the deadline about a potential trade for Colorado Rockies third baseman Ryan McMahon, the Yankees could re-engage during the winter as the All-Star is expected to be the target of trade calls, according to Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report .

"The Rockies should nonetheless be prepared for calls to keep coming this winter, and they'd be foolish not to listen. McMahon is a fine player, but he's also about to turn 30 in December and thus not truly a building block for a franchise that badly needs to be thinking long-term," Rymer wrote.

The main objective this offseason for the Yankees is re-signing Juan Soto. That goes without saying. The offseason will be a failure if they let him leave The Bronx.

But adding a complementary piece like McMahon would be a fantastic addition to the lineup. It would give the Yankees a stout infield with the biggest question coming at first base.

There's no guarantee McMahon will be traded coming off his first All-Star nod, but the Yankees should check in this winter.
