Sha’Carri Richardson pulled through in the final seconds of the 4x100m relay race at the Paris Olympics on Friday, winning gold, after a surprise upset on August 3 when she came in second in the women’s 100m. Pelted by rain and a few feet behind the first place runner, Richardson powered up in the final leg of the relay, narrowly securing gold. She finished only 0.07 seconds ahead of Great Britain, at a season best of 41.78. Richardson, along with fellow Team USA racers, Gabby Thomas, Twanisha Terry and Melissa Jefferson, celebrated following the victory. Thomas told People that the victory was “six years in the making at least,” adding “all of it was for this moment.” “My coach told me everything we’ve done up until this point—Tokyo Olympics, World Championships, even my injured year 2022—it was for this, so that I was prepared and I was mature and I was ready,” Thomas added. Richardson had the fastest split at 9.99 seconds, followed by Terry at 10.02, Thomas at 10.59 and finally Jefferson at 11.34.
