Sean Payton sticks to rotation, Jarrett Stidham to start Broncos' season opener

Fans of the Denver Broncos will have to wait a little longer to see Bo Nix at quarterback.

When the team opens its preseason slate on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, Jarrett Stidham will get the start at quarterback. Head coach Sean Payton has gone with a rotation of Stidham, Bo Nix and Zach Wilson in training camp and it seems that will be his plan in this game.

Stidham will likely play at least a few series and then all eyes will be fixed to the TV when Nix takes his first snaps in a Broncos uniform.

Bo Nix will come in second against Colts

Nix will come in after Stidham and could get at least one series with the starters. Wilson will come in third and play the rest of the way.

Stidham finished the 2023 season as the Broncos' starter and is seen as the fall-back option for Payton if Nix is not ready to take the field in Week 1. However, Stidham is nothing more than a placeholder until Nix is up to speed and ready to assume the starting role.

Wilson will try his best to convince the Broncos to keep three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. If they don't, they could add him to the practice squad, but he would first have to clear waivers.

If Payton sticks to the same rotation he has used in camp, where Stidham works with the first team one day and then Nix the next, Nix could start the team's second preseason game against the Green Bay Packers.
