Young Blackfoot man dies after being struck by vehicle on local road

It is with heavy hearts that we share information regarding a major accident in our community last Friday.

On Friday August 9th just after 11 AM, we received a report of a pedestrian vs vehicle crash in the area of 62 E on 200 N (Weeding Ln). This is about 1/2 mile east of HWY 91.

Upon arrival we learned that Paul R Dreher, a 24 year old male from Blackfoot, was struck by a white 1997 Jeep Wrangler driven by Julie Marlow, a mid 50’s aged female from Blackfoot.

Initial information received was the Jeep was traveling Westbound and encountered visibility issues caused by grain harvest occurring in the adjacent fields. It was also learned that Paul was assisting in those operations when he crossed the road.

Paul was transported via helicopter by Air Idaho Rescue to EIRMC with severe, life threatening injuries.

Julie was transported by ambulance to BMH with possible minor injuries.

We were later informed that Paul succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.

We as a Sheriff’s Office want the community to know that our hearts go out to all affected by this tragedy.

We asked the Idaho State Police to perform a crash reconstruction of the incident. We are investigating the overall crash, with some investigative measures still ongoing. However, our preliminary findings are not conclusive of any negligence involved.
