Isolated Thunderstorms Possible This Afternoon, Heavier Rain Later in the Week

Duluth, MNThe National Weather Service (NWS) in Duluth has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for portions of northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin. The forecast highlights the potential for patchy fog this morning, followed by isolated non-severe thunderstorms this afternoon. Looking ahead, there is a risk of thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall later in the week, particularly from Wednesday through Friday.

    Morning Fog and Afternoon Thunderstorms

Residents in the affected areas may experience patchy fog this morning, reducing visibility in some locations. As the day progresses, isolated thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon. While these storms are not expected to reach severe levels, they could bring brief periods of rain and occasional lightning. The NWS has indicated that spotter activation will not be necessary today or tonight.

Heavy Rainfall and Thunderstorms Later This Week

The outlook for the remainder of the week indicates a greater chance of thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall from Wednesday through Friday. The NWS has noted that while severe weather is not anticipated at this time, the potential for heavy rain could lead to localized flooding, especially in areas with poor drainage.

"There is a chance of thunderstorms and locally heavy rainfall Wednesday through Friday," the NWS stated, urging residents to monitor weather updates as conditions may change.

    Safety and Precautions

As fog and thunderstorms impact the region, residents should take precautions, especially when traveling. Reduced visibility from fog can make driving hazardous, so it's important to slow down and use low-beam headlights. During thunderstorms, seek shelter indoors and avoid outdoor activities that could place you at risk.

With the possibility of heavier rain later in the week, it’s advisable to prepare for potential flooding, particularly in low-lying areas. Stay informed by checking weather updates regularly, especially if you live in areas prone to flooding.
