Lead contamination found in NEPA stadium renovation

The football field bleachers at one Luzerne County high school have been found to be contaminated with lead. According to officials at the Hanover Area School District they had undertaken a project to renovate the Memorial Stadium for its 100th anniversary involving repainting the home bleachers. They say A portion of that project involved the removal of existing paint and prime of which at least one layer contained lead. The superintendent issued a statement saying there is no reason to believe that anyone came into contact with the contamination. Officials predict the first one to two weeks of the football season will have to be moved to other stadiums while remediation takes place.
