VDOT Issues Warning About EZ Pass ‘Smishing’ Scam

Richmond, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - EZ Pass users are being warned of a ‘smishing’ scam in which drivers receive a text message saying they owe money for unpaid toll charges.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) posted a screenshot of a scam text a driver recently received.

VDOT encourages anyone who has received a text requesting payment of outstanding toll charges to please contact their customer service team to validate the message. Click here to do so.

Drivers can also file their complaint with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, making sure to include the phone number of the text along with the web link listed.
