Anthony Gordon issued Liverpool transfer message as Newcastle sent warning

Gabby Agbonlahor has issued a warning to Newcastle United, suggesting that Anthony Gordon may demand talks over his future amid persistent rumors linking him with a move to Liverpool. The Reds' interest in Gordon has been a recurring theme in recent months, with the speculation intensifying during this transfer window.

Gordon was open to a move to Anfield at the end of June. Liverpool and Newcastle had agreed what would have effectively been a swap deal in principle for Gordon and Joe Gomez before the Magpies ended up solving their PSR issues by moving on Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson instead. At that point, the talks ended.

But Agbonlahor, the former Aston Villa forward, believes Gordon should take control of his own destiny by initiating discussions with Newcastle. Speaking to AceOdds , he suggested that the chance for Gordon to join the club he supported as a boy might not come around again.

"I did some research on this and I think he's a Liverpool fan, isn't he?" Agbonlahor said. "So, he's a Liverpool fan, he played for Everton, he's gone to Newcastle. I'm sorry, if you're a Liverpool fan and they come in for you, they win the Champions League , they're a more stable club.

"New manager, new ideas, I think Anthony Gordon jumps at it. He didn't think twice before leaving Everton. He sort of forced that move through to Newcastle, if I remember. The way Newcastle are at the moment, if I'm him I'm saying: 'Goodbye, let me go to Liverpool, they're my boyhood club'.

"He's a Scouser, he can go back home, it's a no-brainer, it's the club he supports. I would go to Liverpool if I was Anthony Gordon , 100 per cent, because this offer might not come again."

Gordon is contracted to Newcastle until the summer of 2026, and manager Eddie Howe seems intent on retaining him for the foreseeable future . When asked about the rumors in late July, the Magpies' boss was adamant that he had no plans to part ways with Gordon anytime soon.

"He's been committed," stated Howe. "We've had no conversations over the summer where it has been fractious or negative. He's always been the Anthony Gordon who has given absolutely everything to Newcastle. He's such an important player for us, we didn't want to lose anybody.

"Why would we want to lose our best players? We fought really hard to make the right decisions. In those last few weeks it was very, very difficult. He's an integral part of what we're doing. I'm confident he is OK. You can only judge Anthony on what he has given Newcastle on the pitch."

Liverpool.com says: Gordon would be a great addition for Liverpool but the chances of that happening this summer are slim. Luis Diaz could yet draw further interest from Barcelona but for the Reds to move him out and convince Newcastle to sell Gordon in the space of a couple of weeks would be a tight turnaround.
