The bear had broken into the classroom at Peak to Peak Charter School in Pine Mountain Club, a small town located about 90 miles north of Los Angeles. The bear’s target? Granola bars stored in the classroom’s emergency earthquake kits.The teacher, Elaine Salmon, had stepped out to the school office to print some paperwork. Upon returning, she was startled to see the bear trapped inside her classroom. The bear had managed to enter the room but was struggling to find its way out.Elaine’s husband, Ian Sawrey, who specializes in handling bear encounters in the rural area, safely removed the animal. Sawrey explained that bear encounters have become increasingly common in the region, with bears even breaking into homes in search of food.
