Crime Roundup: Maury guard arrested on drug charge

A corrections officer was charged with possessing an illicit substance at the Maury Correctional Institution.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office announced that about 7:30 a.m. Aug. 1 investigators arrested Destiny Griggs, 24, of Stokes at the prison.

Griggs, who was then employed as a corrections officer, was searched by other officers who discovered K2 in her possession.

According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration K2 is a synthetic drug designed to mimic THC, the main psychoactive ingredient of marijuana.

Prison officials contacted the sheriff’s office who charged Griggs with possession of controlled substance on prison premises.

She was booked into the Greene County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. She is no longer employed at the prison.
