As the new school year approaches, teachers often face the challenge of securing care for their children during in-service days. This year, the community came together to provide a solution, ensuring kids had a fun and safe environment while their parents attended work obligations.
GISD Superintendent Figueroa coordinated with local school principals Kristen Curry, Kelly Copeland, Lora Sims, and Julie Biezenski to arrange the use of school facilities for the children. The kids enjoyed activities such as watching movies, playing in the gyms, and making new friends.
The community's support extended beyond school facilities. Local eateries generously provided meals throughout the week, while Sina Panzar, an insurance agent from Groesbeck Farm Bureau, donated snacks, water, and juice. Additionally, businesses including Bush’s, Sonic, Limestone Nutrition, Pizza Hut, and Crabby Cones contributed to ensure that the children were well-fed and enjoyed special treats like sno cones and more.
Acknowledgment was given to the young individuals who cared for the children during the in-service daycare, including Hadyn Getz, Sa’Riyah Smith, Constanza Alvarado, Miranda Alvarado, Emily Herridge, and Johnae King. A special thank you was also extended to all the parents who entrusted their children to the caregivers during this time.
In a statement, Brandi Getz expressed gratitude to everyone involved: "Thank you so much to all of these amazing people for watching all the kids through the in-service daycare. Hope everyone has the best year yet."
The collaborative effort of the community, school authorities, businesses, and caregivers exemplifies the spirit of support and unity, marking a remarkable start to the upcoming school year.
