Elkin City Schools students headed back to their classrooms on Wednesday for the start of the 2024-25 school year.

Superintendent Dr. Steve Hall offered a welcome to students, parents, faculty, staff, and the entire Elkin community.

“Like every year, this year is a fresh start, full of opportunities to learn, grow, and achieve great things and I’m excited to begin this school year as your Superintendent,” said Hall. “Whether you are returning or joining us for the first time, know that you are welcome, valued, and supported here at Elkin City Schools. It truly is a ‘Great Day to Be a Buckin’ Elk!’”

Elementary school students were greeted by Principal Dr. Emily Rycroft, teachers and staff as well as Hall on Wednesday morning. The sidewalk was also colorfully decorated with encouraging chalk messages.

At the High School and Middle School, Principals Jennifer Hall and Amanda Burton were out front welcoming students back with special signs and impromptu photo shoots before they headed to class.

The Elkin City Schools Board of Education will also be at work this week with a special called meeting planned for Friday for a strategic planning session. The meeting will be held at the Elkin City Schools Administrative Office beginning at 8 a.m. The meeting will also be accessible electronically by Zoom (link will be posted on the ECS website.)

Among the goals for the strategic planning will be, defining the school system’s vision and mission, determining priorities and objectives and more. The next regular school board meeting will take place Monday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m.
